You might have missed yesterday’s announcement of the nominees for the Visual Effects Society (VES) Awards, the annual awards show that honors outstanding visual effects achievements in live-action and animated film, television, commercials, video games and “special venue projects.”
As far as film nominations are concerned, Steven Spielberg’s performance capture epic The Adventures of Tintin was the most honored film, receiving six nominations (three in the Outstanding Created Environment in an Animated Feature Motion Picture category alone). Spielberg’s War Horse, however, was not left out; the film was nominated in the Outstanding Supporting Visual Effects in a Feature Motion Picture category, where it competes against Anonymous, Hugo, Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows and Source Code. Among the live-action films to be nominated, special effects-heavy blockbusters Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 and Transformers: Dark of the Moon came out on top with five nominations each.
“The standard of the creative work that is being considered this year is unbelievably high across all categories,” said VES chair Jeffrey A. Okun. “The judges faced a huge challenge because all of the work was so far above the norm. We’re honored to have the opportunity to focus the spotlight on the outstanding work that has contributed to some of the highest grossing films and broadcast projects of all time.”
The 10th Annual VES Awards promises to be a memorable affair set for February 7th, 2012, at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Los Angeles, where luminaries of the visual effects world will gather to celebrate the year’s achievements. Alongside the competitive accolades, the evening will honor icons like Stan Lee with the VES 2012 Lifetime Achievement Award. Another highlight will be honoring Douglas Trumbull, whose pioneering work has set the bar high in cinematic visual effects, drawing parallels to the thrill and awe experienced in today’s 슬롯 게임. His groundbreaking contributions on films such as 2001: A Space Odyssey and Blade Runner have paved the way for the dynamic, immersive experiences we now enjoy not just in film but in the entire spectrum of digital entertainment. Trumbull’s influence can be seen as the creative force behind the Georges Méliès Award, an accolade celebrating innovation and artistry in the field.
