Top Gun: Maverick will be available digitally August 23 and on 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray, and DVD November 1, Paramount Home Entertainment announced Tuesday.
The year’s top-grossing film, which you should really see in a theater, will sweeten the home viewing experience with 110 minutes of bonus content that will include a behind-the-scenes look at the cast’s flight training program, and explain how the film set out to “push the limits of Mach-10 with an experimental aircraft specially designed for the movie,” according to Paramount. The extras will also include Maverick star Tom Cruise discussing his passion for aviation, and his talk about his career at the 75th Cannes Film Festival. It will also include this very fun look at Tom Cruise taking James Corden up in the air.
The Top Gun: Maverick DVD, Blu-Ray and 4K Ultra HD extras will also include the videos for “Hold My Hand” by Lady Gaga and “I Ain’t Worried” by OneRepublic. It will also include a teaser trailer for Cruise’s next film, Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One, which is coming to theaters next year.
When Top Gun: Maverick would arrive on digital — as well as Blu-Ray, 4K Ultra HD and DVD — has been a question since the film’s blockbuster theatrical debut in May. While other blockbusters dealt with Covid-19 by going straight to home viewing — Warner Bros. released its entire 2021 slate on HBO Max — Cruise insisted that the follow-up to Top Gun would be best experienced on the big screen.
Cruise, who produced the film as well as starring in it, stubbornly pushed its release date, again and again, and was rewarded for his perseverance with the biggest hit in his four-decade career. Top Gun: Maverick recently surpassed Titanic to become the seventh-highest grossing film of all time. It has earned $1.3 billion in worldwide box office.
Not bad for a movie where we still don’t even know who the bad guys are.
