The trailer for Walter Hill’s new western thriller Dead for a Dollar is out, and it features Christoph Waltz and Willem Dafoe as sworn enemies.
Featuring a stacked cast including Rachel Brosnahan (The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel) and Brandon Scott (Dead to Me, 13 Reasons Why) Dead for a Dollar is an official selection of the 2022 Venice Film Festival.
The film follows veteran bounty hunter Max Borlund (Waltz), who is in Mexico where he encounters professional gambler and outlaw Joe Cribbens (Dafoe) – a sworn enemy that he sent to prison years before. Max is on a mission to find and return Rachel Kidd (Brosnahan), the wife of a wealthy businessman who — as the story is told to Max — has been abducted by Buffalo Soldier Elijah Jones (Brandon Scott). But when it turns out that the person Rachel needs saving from is not Elijah, but her own husband, Max realizes he has a showdown on his hands.
Directed by Hill and co-written by him and Matt Harris (The Starling), the cast of Dead for a Dollar also includes Warren Burke (Family Reunion), Benjamin Bratt (Miss Congeniality), Hamish Linklater (The Big Short), and Guy Burnet (Oppenheimer).
Hill is an accomplished director, writer and producer known for many, many films, including 1982’s 48 Hrs., 1986’s Aliens, 1984’s Streets of Fire, 2012’s Bullet to the Head, 2016’s The Assignment, 1995’s Wild Bill, 1992’s Trespass, and 2002’s Undisputed, just to name a few.
Other cast members of Dead for a Dollar include Scott Peat, Gabriela Alicia Ortega, Herman Johansen, Luis Chávez, Shawn-Caulin Young, and J.D. Garfield.
Dead for a Dollar will be available in theaters, digital, and on-demand on Sept. 30.
